This is a big drawing and you just can't really see the details well in the other picture. It has some kinda sloppy areas on the frill, but I took my time with the mouth and eye.

It’s this kind of attention to detail that makes a great artist. I stand (or sit, rather) in awe of your talent and, above all, PATIENCE! I know it must have taken forever and a day (and a half) to do those scales. But patience has it’s own rewards...and this one is a treasure to be sure.

:-) Melody Pena replies: "Thank you so much! It took about 30 hours to complete. Not forever, though it seemed that way at the time."

Again, your details make me envy your patience!

:-) Melody Pena replies: "I did this before I had kids. I could focus in those days."

How in the hell do you do scales without ruining the entire picture with little shaded circles!?!? I’M SOOO ANGRY!!!!

:-) Melody Pena replies: "Oh , I’ve ruined plenty! Practice."

I don’t even draw scales for fear of ruining a good picture2 I just give it hair or something2 I drew a dragon called Patch once, his name is patch because he has spotty cow fur2 Heh heh2

it’s very nice i find it so hard to emulate reptile skin

:-) Melody Pena replies: "Thank you for visiting! Reptile skin is fun! ’specially when nobody knows if what you have drawn is correct or not ."

Melody, this is a beautifully rendered triceratops. My wife Lynn and I saw a traveling exhibition of Animatronic dinos a few years back, and they were amazingly detailed. But this work is even more artistic- and you did this in ’85! just stunning.

:-) Melody Pena replies: " I was experimenting with imaginary scale textures. Did these things even have scales? Thank you very much for the comment!"
