This is another Christmas card design that I used a few years ago.

This creature is  a "griffacampus", part griffin -part  fish. He is being told a long boring story by his hyper-talkative seagull buddy. This is a computer colored  pencil sketch.

Heheh, is this what happens when a bird loves a fish? I love it.

Can’t stop cracking up when I look at that expression. Kinda like the look I get from my cats... I love it!

If a griffacampus is pre-existing, I’ve never heard of one. But I just love this one. Every scale is very well shaded.

:-) Melody Pena replies: "I am not sure if this creature "exists" or not. It seems to me that that I have seen creatures somewhat like this as ornamental carvings on antique furniture but I don’t know if those creatures had a specific name. Interesting question! "

you know, I still have my card you sent with this image on it! The facial expressions are just priceless in this piece. I enjoy it even more after having the opportunity to visit the ocean for the first time and actually get to see sea gulls.

They truly can be chatty noisy birds! I loved them.

:-) Melody Pena replies: "I really did see a seagull swallow a dorrito chip whole!"

It’s one of those concepts where once I see it, I wonder: Why haven’t anybody thought of that before? Great idea, and beautifully drawn!

:-) Melody Pena replies: "Thank you!"
