I haven't finished any new sculpture in years , so I keep painting old stuff in new ways.

This is the male and female griffin by Windstone Editions ( I sculpted these guys)  painted in a color I call "Savannah". The makings  areinspired by  the markings of the  "Savannah cat"  hybrid I've been hearing about in the news lately as being the newest chic pet. These griffins are cast in gypsum , they are  airbrushed  with acrylic paint  and they have dark lavender glass eyes and amethyst colored jewels set in their  chain necklaces

Beautiful as always! 2 Are the blue tones some kind of shine effect on the black or it it painted blue here and there?

:-) Melody Pena replies: "The dark areas on the feathers are airbrushed with blue interference paint. It creates an effect very similar to the iridescence you can see on a real feather."

:-) Melody Pena replies: "This color is adapted from the spot pattern of the hybrid domestic cat x wild Savannah cat. The spots on these hybrids have a softer look than those on the pure wild Savannah cat."
