Work in progress.I try all sorts of clays. This is an unusual original because I normally make such a rough first sculpture it isn't worthy of a photo. You can still see some of the mold material stuck under the jaw,it's that light green stuff. This piece wasn't cast with the eyes in place, I just stuck those in.

For a first cast it’s amazing! The amount of detail you put into your work never ceases to amaze me.

I have to admit, the large rock dragon is by far my favorite of all of your sculptures, even more so than the secret keeper. Not only does it have characteristics of my beloved beardies, but he is incredibley detailed. He also has the "king of the rock" posture and expression going on, which all reptiles seem to be a pro at. I suppose my "grail dragon" as forum members call them, would be one of these in some bizarre, bright color...like autumn leaf...ah man....I think I would be tempted, seriously tempted, to sell of my entire collection for that. 2

:-) Melody Pena replies: "I have tried to paint a rock dragon in "autumn leaf". The texture doesn’t work with metallic paint very well, you need those large rounded smooth scales to make it look right. "

can it run on water? wee!

:-) Melody Pena replies: "No, it is cast in cement, so running on water is definitely out!

That’s amazing!1 I just finished a clay sculpture myself. It’s of a hand holding a baby dragon. It’s going in the kelm on Monday. What kind of clay did you use for this one?

:-) Melody Pena replies: "I am so sorry! I didn’t see this question!
I used a new type of clay called "Castaline". It is a very hard plastaline-like compound. First time I have used it!"
